Silly Internet Love Song of the Day: Hannah “Harto” Hart of My Drunk Kitchen fame pays homage to her number one source of inspiration: The Internet.

“This began as my Anti-SOPA song,” she writes, “but turned into so much more.”

Also available on iTunes and bandcamp.

[thanks naomi!]

I already had a tremendous crush on this girl, but now she’s in the top 10. <3

Anonymous - An Official Message (ACTA)

The impending threat of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement and the implications on our freedom and access to information and resources has brought us to this point. This is an intended declaration of war, we will not stop until this global legislation has been terminated.

We will deploy the full extent of our resources to ensure the death of this agreement which threatens net neutrality and anonymity and would give power to governments wishing to snoop on our internet usage as well as the right to interfere.

We are Anonymous.

We are Legion.

We do not forgive.

We do not forget.

Expect us.

“Because the biggest producers of content on the Internet are not Google and Yahoo — they’re us – we’re the ones getting policed. The real threat to the enactment of PIPA and SOPA is our ability to share things with one another.”

-Clay Shirky, in his “emergency” TED talk about SOPA and why it would create a “consumption-only Internet.”

but it wouldn’t. It would create an Internet that is virtually free of Traditional Media. With 2 Billion Internet users, Traditional Media is trying to make the most idiotic move yet. If SOPA succeeds, we will have no choice by to reblog ourselves. the Internet Users will make the filmed content that others will mash up/re-blog.

There are a lot of people in Traditional Media with MBA’s. Did they not think this through?

Let’s build our own Internet, one where we make the rules. We’ll put our Internet in a park where we’ll live together and it will be open all day every day, under our terms. We’ll talk about politics and food.

I did my best to blend in to the background, sticking to minor conversations with P. and her friends. One of them— a familiar looking model/DJ/anthropology student— asked me about myself. I told her what I’d told P., and instantly she grew icy. “Look, it’d be one thing if you were from print. I mean, by the time your piece ran we’d probably have all moved on to something else. Plus no one who reads print would be interested in our nights anyways— they’d be dismissed like so many other way-too-late stories on things like urban farming or OFWGKTA. But online? If this gets on NYMag, or (and here she sighed) Gothamist, we’ll be ruined, filled with bankers and PR assistants. It’ll make Saturday nights at the Jane look like Thursday nights at the Beatrice.

You know that clip of Kurt Loder discovering the Internet in 1995 that’s getting passed around? Well, we’ve got an even better one. This is Fab 5 Freddy circa 1994 (!), telling the YO! MTV Raps audience about the wonders of email, and promising (threatening?) to “put some funk in cyberspace.” It’s a must-watch.

REBECCA BLACK ROUND-UP

So, you may have heard about this 13 year old pop sensation called Rebecca Black and her smash single ‘Friday’ which discusses such pressing topics that teenagers handle every day, such as what seat to take in a car full of her friends, or a bowl of cereal in the morning, or just the order of the days of the week.

It’s gotten out of hand in the week since the video premiered. Produced by Ark Factory Music and paid for by Black’s parents as a vanity project costing $2,000, which really isn’t so bad considering they gave her the song and shot the video.
