The 5 Deadly Venoms
Five Venoms aka Five Deadly Venoms is a cult 1978 Hong Kong martial arts film directed by Chang Cheh, starring the Venom Mob, and produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, about five kung-fu fighters with unique animal styles: The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard and The Toad. The film was listed at number 11 on Entertainment Weekly’s Top 50 Cult Films list.
One of the most classic kung fu movies of all time. Often listed as the first kung fu movie fans recommend. It’s got the best of all, so no wonder it’s a cult classic. At heart it’s a murder mystery, of sorts, but it’s got solid “real” kung fu and the over-the-top insanity that the genre would come to be known for. A turning point for kung fu flicks. Not one of my top favorites but one of the most accessible and fun.
